Lectures and Seminars

For 36 years SILL has been recognized as a smart choice in adult education. Last season our Sarasota-Venice programs drew almost 22,000 people; an over 5% gain from 2006, attracted by a thought provoking line-up of college level lectures delivered by leading names from academia, the media, the arts, think tanks and the U.S. Foreign Service. The vast majority of our attendees are college graduates, and many have graduate degrees, so we know we have a very discerning audience to please!


Sarasota Lectures

Sarasota Lectures

Sarasota lectures are held Monday through Thursday starting at 10:30 A.M. Doors open at 9:50 A.M. with Series ticket holders encouraged to arrive by 10:15 A.M. Series tickets for Monday are $60, the Tuesday Contempory series are $50 each and the Wednesday and Thursday International series are $75 each. 

In Venice, season tickets for the Tuesday Contemporary series are $50 each and the Friday International series $60 each. 

If available, single day admission tickets go on sale to the general public by 10:15 AM daily. Daily tickets to all lectures are $7 at the door. Payment by check or cash only. We do not accept credit cards.

Cassettes and compact discs of each Sarasota lecture are available for $10. 


Venice Lectures

Venice Lectures

All Venice sessions are held in the Venice Community Center 326 South Nokomis Avenue (next to Venice Public Library), except February 1 and March 7, which will be held at The Venice Little Theatre 140 Tampa Avenue West. Lectures start at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays (except on Jan 15…start time of 2:00 p.m.), and 10:00 a.m. on Fridays. Doors open at 1:50 P.M. and 9:15 A.M. respectively, with Series ticket holders encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the schedule start time. 

Season tickets for the Tuesday Contemporary series are $50 each and the Friday International series are $60 each. Single day admission tickets are $7 and go on sale to the general public not later than 15 minutes before the schedule lecture start time. Payment by cash or check. We do not accept credit cards.


Seminars

Seminars

All SILL seminars are held at the G.WIZ Museum between 2:00 P.M. and 5 P.M.. Seminars complement the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday International Challenges Lecture Series held in Sarasota and Venice. They provide an opportunity for in-depth analysis and discussion of critical issues confronting the Administration and are designed to allow more give-and-take discussion by participants than is ever possible in the one-hour SILL morning lecture presentations. Accordingly, attendance is limited to 30 to afford free and open dialogue between leader and participants. 
Cost per seminar is $30. Day admissions are sometimes available but you are encouraged to check ahead.

Lecture Archives

The Archive is provided as a useful tool to both explore topics presented during the last three seasons and to potentially research in greater depth the background, affiliation and writings of our various speakers. If you missed a lecture that is of particular interest, you may contact us as to the availability and possible purchase of an archived cassette or compact disc recording of the lecture. Seminars are not recorded.


Evaluations

Evaluations

The SILL Board of Directors evaluates every speaker and every seminar. Some speakers; especially first time lecturers at SILL, while being well-known experts in their field lack the presence and rapport that we expect to present to our audience. Responsiveness during the question and answer period is particularly important. Evaluations, especially by SILL Series ticket holders, ensure that we continue to meet the high expectations you have come to enjoy over the years.
