Stephanie Sundine

Stephanie Sundine

Stephanie Sundine began directing opera in 1998 after retiring from a distinguished singing career which took her to three continents and many of the world’s leading opera houses. Stephanie, who is married to Victor DeRenzi, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Sarasota Opera, is known for creating detailed character development and providing lively, imaginative productions that offer dramatic insight into a work. She’s directed for the Atlanta Opera, Indiana University Opera Theater, Madison Opera, Opera Carolina, Utah Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, and Sarasota Opera.

Her range of works is wide and diverse ranging from Verdi (“La Traviata,” “Macbeth,” “Otello,” “Don Carlos,” “Ernani” and “Rigoletto”) and Puccini (“Tosca,” “Madama Butterfly,” “La Boheme” and “La Fanciulla del West”) to Bizet, Mozart and the contemporary Mark Adamo (“Little Women”). She also maintains an active coaching studio in New York City, helping singers with role preparation and audition material. Stephanie will appear with Victor DeRenzi in SILL’s Sarasota event but will be speaking with June LeBell about her own careers in Venice.
