James Goodby

Amb. James E. Goodby is currently a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, where he works with former Secretary of State George Shultz and noted physicist Professor Sidney Drell. He also is affiliated with the Brookings Institution and MIT. He served for over 30 years in the U.S. Foreign Service and was given five presidential appointments to ambassadorial rank, including U.S. Ambassador to Finland.

He has written and edited many books and articles while teaching at Stanford, Georgetown, Syracuse, and Carnegie Mellon Universities. He is Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University. His writings include the following books; "At the Borderline of Armageddon: How American Presidents Managed the Atom Bomb", "Strategy for Stable Peace: Toward a Euroatlantic Security", "Community Regional Conflicts: The Challenge to U.S.-Russian Co-operation", "Northern Territories and Beyond: Russian, Japanese, and American Perspectives", "The Gravest Danger: Nuclear Weapons".
