Schedule Change

Wayne White, who was scheduled to speak on Feb 25 and 26, has informed us he will not be able to keep this engagement. Mr. White has been afflicted with a medical problem that will not permit him to travel for an indeterminate time. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Ambassador Barbara Bodine will replace Mr. White. She is a lecturer in public policy at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs where she teaches courses on the Iraq War, US diplomacy in the Persian Gulf region, and, fall 2010, on Yemen.

Amb. Bodine's topic will be "Yemen: Learning the Right Lessons and Avoiding the Mistakes of Iraq and Afghanistan" Having served as our ambassador to Yemen for four years this promises to be an especially timely and enlightening lecture.

Schedule Change

Jeremy Shapiro, who was scheduled to speak on January 19 and 20 has accepted a position at the Department of State. His new job does not permit him to speak publically on issues of foreign policy and thus he has had to cancel his engagement with SILL.

Dr. James M. Goldgeier will replace Mr. Shapiro. He is a Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University.

Dr. Goldgeier's topic on Tuesday, Jan 19 will be, "Does America Still Need Europe?" and on Wednesday, Jan 20, "Obama, NATO, and the War in Afghanistan."
